Newcastle track competes at regionals, three qualify for state

(TC GORDON | THE GRAHAM LEADER) Newcastle’s Aubree Clayton completes one of her high jump attempts at a track and field meet earlier this season. Clayton qualified for the state meet in her event with a wild card selection, where she will compete in Austin over the days of May 2-4.
The Newcastle Bobcats and Ladycats competed at the regional track meet in Denton last week and three athletes qualified for state in their events.
After a long, successful season, Newcastle’s track and field team headed to the University of North Texas with a handful of students poised to showcase their abilities. The event lasted over the weekend from Friday, April 19 and due to weather it carried into Monday, April 22. The team had representation in multiple events, and while only three qualified for state, there were high finishes and quality scores all around.
Isaac King won gold in the pole vault to make it to state while Ty Strawbridge and Aubree Clayton advanced to state with wild cards in the discus and high jump, respectively.
These athletes will compete at the state meet in Austin from Thursday, May 2 to Saturday, May 4.
Although the season has ended for most of the team, they represented their school well and worked hard to improve over the course of the year. Listed below are the events, placement, name of the athlete or team and the results.
