Multiple Graham Steers and Lady Blues represented their school at the Region 1-4A track and field meet in Lubbock last weekend.

While none of the athletes qualified for the state meet, they all had strong showings in what became their final opportunities to compete this season. Only those who finish first or second in their events advance to the state meet, and while Graham had plenty of high finishers, their seasons have come to an end.

The closest competitor to advancing was Zathin Reyes who finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles. Peyton Kinman, Rylan Monsey and Georgia Martin each finished fifth in their events — the long jump for Kinman and Martin and pole vault for Monsey.

“The boys were a very young team with a lot of promising finishes by a number of ninth grade athletes. The future is definitely bright for the boys’ side; their third place finish in district, as well as area, was solid considering their youth,” track coach Jim Walton said. “On the girls' side we were very proud of their showing in both the district meet—third place—and their second place area finish…

“Unfortunately, a number of our strongest returning performers had to battle injuries throughout the season and ultimately had their seasons end short of their goals primarily due to those physical setbacks. All in all (I’m) very proud of how these track athletes represented Graham High School track and field.”

Graham’s Steers and Lady Blues showed out all season and worked hard for the results and accomplishments they achieved this year. Results and placements are listed below.

Note: If an athlete competed in the preliminaries but did not advance to the finals, their prelims placement and result are listed. If the athlete advanced to the finals, their final placement and result are shown.
