Sometimes the best cure for a tough district loss is a solid victory. Both the Bryson Cowgirls and Cowboys were in search of this Tuesday night at home against the Throckmorton Greyhounds and Lady Hounds. While the Cowgirls managed to escape with a narrow victory, the Cowboys were unlucky against the Hounds in their contest. Bryson was scheduled to continue district play Friday night against local rivals Newcastle. Both Bryson teams will be on the road Jan. 24 against Woodson in district action. Bryson 35, Throckmorton 33 Low-scoring contests have become the norm these days for the Bryson Cowgirls. However, Tuesday night was one they shouldn’t mind, given the outcome. Despite two straight quarters of single-digit scoring, the Cowgirls managed to claim a narrow victory. With the win, Bryson evened its district record at 2-2 for the season. A 12-point first quarter was enough to give the Cowgirls the lead because the Lady Hounds scored 10 of those points. Going into the halftime break, Bryson outscored Throckmorton 7-5 to extend the advantage to 19-15. Each team scored seven points in the third, allowing the Cowgirls to stay in the lead at 26-22. Despite being ousted 11-9 in the fourth quarter, Bryson had done just enough to claim the win. For the rest of this story, subscribe to our print or online edition.
