Graham, Bryson and Newcastle Independent School District students will be heading back to school on Monday, Aug. 22, but before that happens there are a few reminders for GISD parents and students. With enrollment rates down in the month of June according to a report by Graham ISD Superintendent Sonny Cruse, it is important for students to make sure they not only enroll, but complete the online verification process by Aug. 22. All GISD students are required to complete the online enrollment verification process. Class schedules, home room assignments, Graham Junior High School iPads and Graham High School MacBooks will not be released until the enrollment verification process has been completed by the student or parent. All verifications must be submitted before the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 22. To complete the verification process log into the Skyward Family Access Portal to determine if the verification process has been completed for your student. If one needs assistance with login information, contact the school in which your student will be attending. Dress code change Along with enrollment, on Wednesday, Aug. 10, the GISD School Board approved changes in the GISD Student Code of Conduct regarding the dress code for students. The 2015-2016 code previously stated that the “width of the students palm” would be permissible but now the district will follow the “fingertip” rule. The new 2016-2017 code states that “student’s shorts, skirts, and dresses may not be shorter than the student’s fingertips while the student is standing erect with his/her arms and shoulders relaxed at their sides.” Safety around buses – drivers Safety is a number one priority for students who attend GISD and basic bus safety is involved in those safety measures.
