Cattle truck flips

Wed, 11/16/2016 - 9:08 am
State troopers are investigating this accident in which a tractor-trailer carrying a full load of yearling calves overturned Friday morning, Nov. 11. The westbound rig left the roadway and shoulder and entered the ditch, overturning as it tried to get back onto the highway. The truck’s driver was not injured, but his passenger was trapped in the cab of the truck with a possible broken leg for more than 40 minutes before rescuers could remove her. An AirEvac helicopter ambulance was called to take her for emergency care. A dead deer in the roadway may have contributed to the accident. The wreck took place on U.S. 380 East, 5.2 miles past the Graham city limits. The surviving calves, which were on their way to market, were removed to a nearby pasture until their owner could retrieve them. No further information on the wreck was available at presstime Friday.
