Hank Graham from Graham will perform in the world premiere of Kids Who Care’s new original music, “In the Zone,” from Thursday through Saturday, July 29 through Aug. 1, at the Scott Theatre located at 1300 Gendy St., in Fort Worth.
Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. July 29, 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. July 30, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. July 31, and 2 p.m. Aug. 1. Kids Who Care is a non-profit international theater company based in Fort Worth.
In the Zone is an original musical that takes viewers through the gutsy, nerve-wracking and often hilarious process of auditioning for a theater production. It begins with a child on a swing, singing out loud and swinging high with sheer joy. The scene quickly transforms to a diverse cast of characters, including the child as an adolescent, waiting in line to audition.
The show then journeys with the characters through the audition process and back to that moment, high and free in the swing, when it all comes together and the courage to step up and try is met by the steel guts it takes to make it all happen.
“In the Zone is for anyone, anywhere, who has dared to pursue their dreams,” said Deborah Jung, founder and executive director of Kids Who Care. “The Zone is that place where you’re at your best, where hard work and practice pay off as you take the risk to let go and become one with your work. Whether you’re a doctor, athlete, writer, teacher, musician or actor, ‘In the Zone,’ is where we all do our best and most important work.”
In the Zone is a collaborative effort of Texas playwrights and songwriters, including several Kids Who Care alumni.
The youth actors at Kids Who Care helped steer the show’s content through their own writings and feedback as the script and original songs evolved. The musical’s cast will include area youth plus international students who have traveled from Israel, Italy and Albania for an extensive theater experience at Kids Who Care.
Ticket prices are $18 for ages 16 and up, $15 for those 15 and younger and $10 each for groups of 10 or more.
